About Us
Faisal Manzur Design Studio is a design practice based in Madras, India, founded in 2021
with humble beginnings from Faisal's own home. Our journey started with small yet
meaningful projects, like Sage and Lavender, which set the tone for our design philosophy.
In 2022, we moved into our current studio — a 78-year-old post-colonial property, tucked
away in the bylanes of Madras. The studio itself reflects our commitment to the local context,
incorporating typical elements of a Chennai home: wooden rafters on the ceiling, terrazzo
flooring, and high ceilings. We reworked the space to align with our signature mid-century
modern aesthetic while retaining the charm of the original structure.
The FMDS studio is also a curated collection of artifacts and paintings sourced from all over
India, reflecting our love for art and its significance in our design philosophy. Art plays a vital
role not just in our studio but also in our projects, where we integrate artistic elements to
enrich the storytelling of every space we create.
Our craft stems from our deep-rooted traditions, blending them seamlessly with modern
sensibilities. We achieve a harmonious fusion of materials, intricate detailing, and artistic
elements, resulting in distinctive spaces. Our design choices go hand in hand with
collaborating with local artisans, craftsmen, and materials that echo the local environment.
We take on projects of all scales, balancing functional engineering with a profound respect
for the arts. We aspire to push the boundaries of our profession while remaining faithful to
our guiding principle of "Traditionalizing the Modern."
